The Growth Mindset

In the education field, one of the lessons that are taught to educators and future educators is the growth mindset. The growth mindset takes the focus away from expecting a finished product to focusing on personal daily growth.

Since we have just experienced the beginning of a new year you will hear a lot of talk about resolutions and people may ask you what are your goals for 2019? I would recommend the focus of adopting a growth mindset. A growth mindset allows for you to set daily smaller goals for yourself to help solve bigger goals.

Instead of saying I want to get a boyfriend/girlfriend, buy a house, travel to Asia, or any other big goal the focus should be on smaller goals and smaller daily, weekly, monthly improvement instead of an all or nothing goal.

Instead of focusing on the idea of buying a house or 2019 is a failure instead think about ways you can improve your financial skills. Thank yourself when you don’t splurge on that $20 dollar purchase that you don’t need, take that financial planning class, pay off some debt, etc. If you focus on these smaller goals eventually you will be able to afford that house. It may not be in 2019 but you will get there. Instead of saying I have to find a significant other instead focus on putting yourself out there socially, getting involved in the community, working on your body language, and eventually you will get yourself in position to attract someone.

The lesson is in this world of you need to have stuff together by a certain age, I hope that in 2019 you ignore that rule of society and focus on the growth mindset. Focus on step by step progress and remember it is okay to not have it all figured out whether you are 20, 25, 29, or 49. Just strive to make daily progress and focus on personal improvement.
