Teaching During the Pandemic: Reflections on Week One

I just made it through my first week of long-term NTI teaching. A few things that I noticed.

1) Google Meet although far from ideal went quite well. The students missed that somewhat sense of normalcy of communicating with their students and I missed seeing students as a teacher.

2) My district and school in general did a great job. It took an all-in effort from everybody but it worked. It is always great to see all the planning and effort pay off. From the contact with parents, to the planning, to learning the new problems it all payed off and the students appear to be buying into it.

3) I have discovered different ways to teach science and to simulate some lab situations. This week I will do a pinball lesson on forces and I am planning on using some labs from PhET from the University of Colorado. I will be doing a post about virtual labs later on as well.

4) Although things are going well, I know that the motto for this year is adjustment. There is always that anxiety of what about this or what about that? Don’t worry teachers and parents you are not the only ones struggling and we can get through it.
