Teaching During The Pandemic: Going Virtual

Teaching During The Pandemic: Going Virtual

To start this blog post I want to start off with this quote.

” Great challenges can bring about great triumphs”

For educators, it has been a challenging year to say the least. Starting in March our world like everyone else’s was turned upside turn. Now it is time for school to begin. Like many teachers the featured image of this post is very accurate.

I am not going into the politics of the situation because there is plenty of that going on. Earlier this week I was informed that virtual schooling will be my path for my school district and for most of the state. While that was good for lowering the COVID-19 risk (a serious illness) it does bring about a lot of questions.

What about those kids that have no or limited internet?

How am I going to build relationships with the students online?

How do I do science labs?

What can I do to make things more engaging?

To be honest this is far from an ideal situation for anyone. Even the districts that are open for in-person schooling have challenges that they have to face, but remember “Great challenges can bring about great triumphs”.

What if we can discover new ways and new methods for learning?

What if we can be in the forefront of innovation?

What if when we get in-person instruction back that both teachers and students cherish those moments?

Yes, it will be a challenging experience but it will also be a learning exprience. Yes, it will be far from ideal but perhaps we will learn something about ourselves that will make us even better teachers.

At the end of the day it is what it is and we can either decide to be bitter or do the best with what we have.
